Can you match another company's price/quote?

Therefore, it is impossible for us to match another company's price as we truly cannot understand what you will receive from them.
How is Bird's Eye different than any other roofing company on google?
The reason Bird's Eye Roofing is in business, and the reason we will continue to be in business, is due to our customer first approach. We offer good advice to our customers in every situation. We don't overpromise on insurance claims, and cut costs to install sub par roofs. We see those situations as eroding customer trust, and setting up a lot of future warranty calls. Those are the two achilles heels of the roofing business in Atlanta. You can expect us to provide this service through strong communication that will not leave you with any surprises after you use our service.
Is Bird's Eye certified by any shingle manufacturer?
Bird's Eye Roofing has extensive certifications with GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, and Atlas
Do you do metal roofs?
Yes, we offer metal roofs that add distinctive aesthetics to residential homes
What Makes a Roof Uninsurable
Insurance providers often label older roofs or poorly maintained ones as high-risk, which might restrict coverage or increase costs. Roofing professionals can liaise with insurers, negotiating for coverage inclusion. Their comprehensive approach helps homeowners potentially reduce financial burden and streamlines the process for insurance claims related to roofing work.
How to Recognize Hidden Signs of Storm Damage
Property owners may notice signs of wind damage, such as misaligned shingles or visible marks on exteriors. Proactive roofing professionals are crucial; they provide comprehensive inspections to uncover and address any damage, ensuring timely and effective solutions to maintain the integrity of your property.
Should I tell insurance about new roof?
As a property owner, it's common to inquire whether updating your insurer about a new roof is necessary and if it impacts your premiums. Transparency with your insurer about such updates is often beneficial and can lead to potential insurance savings.
Will insurance cover my roof replacement
Insurance will likely cover your roof replacement if you have visible storm damage within 365 days. The storm damage must be clearly visible to the insurance adjuster with a date of loss that aligns with storm software that documents the storm damage date. Storm damage can be hail or wind.
Do you work with insurance companies to get my roof replaced?
Yes, we typically meet with the insurance adjuster on site to make sure they evaluate the roof at the same level we did. During the adjuster meeting, we will examine the damage together and agree on the items needed to properly replace the roof.
Do You Have To Pay Your Deductible for a Roof Replacement
A deductible is the out-of-pocket amount paid by a policyholder before an insurance claim is fully covered by the insurer. Once the deductible is paid, the insurance company typically assumes responsibility for the remaining costs associated with the claim, such as for roof replacement or repair.
What if my insurance company approves more than the cost of your estimate?
If insurance coverage surpasses the estimated repair costs, the policyholder may either be allowed to allocate the extra funds to cover associated expenses or be required to refund the difference, following the insurer's specified procedures. Each insurance company has its own policies regarding the handling of such situations.
Do my rates go up if I file a claim
If this is your first claim over the last five years, and your roof is successfully replaced, it should actually lower your homeowner's insurance rates as you'll have a brand new roof that is less likely to be affected by storm damage.
What happens if my claim is denied
If a claim is denied, an appeal can be submitted in written form. Request a written confirmation of the expected resolution timeline to expedite the process. Often, the insurance company may assign a second adjuster to provide an additional assessment upon receiving an appeal for reconsideration of the decision.
Will I get dropped if I file a claim?
Most homeowners are dropped for their third claim within five years. Therefore, you need to know if you've had tree claims, water claims, vandalism claims, etc. before filing a claim for your roof. If you are dropped after filing an insurance claim, your annual rates could increase while looking for new coverage.
What are code upgrades (building and ordinance endorsement)
Code upgrades, also known as building and ordinance endorsement, means that if your roof is covered under an insurance claim, the insurance company is responsible for paying for the labor and materials to install the roof to the current building code. Drip edge often falls into this coverage.
What is difference between RCV and ACV policies?
RCV (replacement cost value) policies cover the full cost of replacing the roof. ACV (actual cash value) policies cover the property's current value, which is often reduced from it's replacement cost. ACV policies often offer premium savings, but do not offer as extensive coverage.
What is an insurance supplement?
A supplement refers to additional monies added to a claim based on additional work done during a roof installation. Insurance companies will often not pay for hidden materials such as flashing, ice and water shield, or starter shingles unless proof is presented that they existed under the roofing system, or were replaced to building code
Will a Roofer Meet My Insurance Adjuster?
While insurance adjusters are capable of evaluating damage on their own, involving your roofing contractor in the assessment can be beneficial. A roofer may provide additional insights, ensuring that the adjuster's evaluation is thorough and reflects the true extent of the damage for an accurate claim resolution.
What date should I use when filing a claim?
When filing an insurance claim, the 'Date of Loss' refers to the date when the damage or loss actually happened- not when the damage was discovered or filed. Using the proper date is crucial for a valid insurance claim and your roofer should provide this date to you.
Should I Call a Roofer Before Your Insurance Company
Before claiming for weather-related damages, it's wise to consult with a roofing company. They can perform an evaluation with no obligation and recommend whether to proceed with a claim based on the necessity. This proactive approach may prevent frivilous claims which could raise your monthly insurance premiums
WIll filing an insurance claim raise my insurance rates?
Filing a claim can result in higher insurance premiums, regardless of payout. It may be beneficial to contact a roofing company initially, as they typically provide a no-obligation assessment and will only suggest opening a claim if it's deemed essential. This can help homeowners avoid unnecessary increases in their premiums.
Should I get three quotes after getting a claim approved?
When an insurance claim is approved, it is often adviseable to use the roofer who helped get your roof approved. However, if you did not use a roofer for your insurance claim, you can get multiple quotes to see which roofer can offer the best value for you
How Binding Are Contingency Contracts
If you signed a contingency contract with a roofing company who knocked on your door, it is likely they did not abide by the Georgia Law passed in 2018 which requires extensive documentation, so the contract is probably not valid unless it has multiple options to cancel
Should I hire a public adjuster for my roofing claim?
Public adjusters for roofing claims can get very expensive. By law, they are the only people allowed to negotiate with your insurance company regarding claim payout. This may be necessary if there is extensive damage caused by a large event. Smaller events often do not require their involvement
What's the difference between GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed?
GAF is the largest shingle manufacturer in the US and found in Home Depots in Atlanta. CertainTeed and Owens Corning are both reputable shingle manufacturers. You cannot go wrong between these three. The shingle colors between the manufacturers are definitely different, so you should choose between them based on how they look
What is underlayment?
Underlayment is a protective layer installed between the roof deck and the shingles, offering additional defense against external elements like rain, snow, and wind. This secondary barrier is crucial for the longevity and integrity of the roofing system and is required per manufacturer installation instructions.
Is a Drip Edge Necessary on Your Roof?
Drip edge installation became code in Georgia in 2014 and is required on all new roof installations. Drip edge prevents water from going between the roof and gutter, and covers the builder gaps from critters. It is an integral part of your roofing system. The bigger the better!
Should a New Roof be Put on Before the New Gutters?
Installing a new roof first will ensure the gutters do not get dinged up during the roof removal process. However, if the gutters are installed first, drip edge can be seamlessly installed into the new gutter system. We advise roof first without notching the drip edge, and then gutters second behind the drip edge.
What shingle color should I choose?
First, decide if you want a color that contrasts your home, one that complements certain colors, or one that blends in with it. A black roof on a white house would be maximum contrast. Grays usually blend in a little more. Weathered wood colors on brick homes usually blend in.
Which Asphalt Shingles Have the Strongest Wind Warranties
All shingle manufacturers have the same written wind warranties. However, it is integral that the shingles are actually installed properly to make sure these warranties can withstand the wind ratings. This includes proper number of nails and location of the nails and shingles.
Will shingles be installed on the entire roof, even the low slope areas?
Shingles will be installed across the majority of the roofing areas; however, low slope sections require a different approach. For these areas, rolled roofing material is utilized to provide adequate protection. Otherwise, the shingles will leak in these areas unless the proper material is used
What are Class 4 Impact Resistant Shingles?
There are shingles available that offer both energy efficiency and heightened hail resistance. The highest protective rating for impact resistance is Class 4, which is recommended for homes in areas prone to severe weather to ensure maximum defense against damage. However, they are very expensive and rarely installed.
Will the repair be the same day as the appointment
Bird's Eye Roofing offers premium repair services. This entails repairing areas properly with the closest matching shingles. Therefore, our process includes diagnosing the leak on the first appointment, and physically making the repair on a second appointment once the proper amount of matching shingles can be procured
How soon can you perform the repair after I sign the contract?
We typically perform the repairs within a couple of days once the contract is signed. This allows us to procure the proper amount of material that best matches and repair. The repairs are then scheduled at a convenient time for you and with good weather.
Can you give me a quote based off my inspection report
This is a service we perform quite often for realtors. However, if there is an active leak, we have to see the area in person if it is not 100% obvious, like a pipe boot. Chimneys are usually more intricate and require thorough inspection
My roof is leaking. Can you fix it?
We have an excellent repair department and can fix any leak you're experiencing.
Will the shingles match in my repair area?
Matching new shingles to an existing roof's repair area can be challenging due to the age of the existing shingles. Shingles fade over time, and can get algae on them. Having the roof cleaned after a repair is the best way to ensure the closest match.
What is your warranty on repairs?
Our repairs are installed to last a lifetime. Our written warranty is two years, but our repairs last much longer. We do not caulk repair areas, which is a temporary repair at best
What maintenance is required after a roof replacement?
After replacing a roof, regular maintenance should include keeping the roof clear of debris, covering exposed nailheads with caulk so they do not rust, and fixing nail pops as the underlying decking moves in changing weather. At ten years or so, the pipe boots can be replaced
How long will the roof replacement take
Most roof replacements can be completed in one day. Larger, more complex homes can take more than one day to ensure quality standards are met in complex areas. The crews usually arrive before first light, and begin tearing off at first light. Clean up is done before it gets dark.
How do I know when it's time to replace the roof?
Recognizing when a roof needs replacement can be identified by several signs: frequent leaks, extensive shingle damage, sagging, and interior water damage. If a roof is nearing the end of its expected lifespan or repairs become too frequent, it may be time for a full replacement.
How long should a roof last
The lifespan of a roof depends on the installtion quality and materials used, climate, and maintenance practices. Typically, asphalt shingle roofs can last 15-30 years, metal roofs up to 50 years, and slate, tile, or copper roofs can exceed 50 years with proper upkeep, under optimal conditions.
Can You Put a New Roof on Top of an Old Roof?
Georgia code says a home can have up to 3 layers of shingles. We do not recommend a roof over ever, and have never done one. We do see homes with multiple layers of shingles. Roofing with multiple layers cuts the lifespan of the roof in half and makes it impossible to repair.
What types of ventilation are used for a roof
Proper roof ventilation ensure there is equal intake and exhaust. There are several ventilation calculators that can help decide what ventilation to use on your home. Improper ventilation typically voids the manufacturer warranty and shortens the lifespan of the roof. Ridge vent, box vents, power fans, are all good ventilation options.
What's the difference between three tab shingles and architectural shingles?
Three-tab shingles last 15-20 years, have a 60mph wind warranty, and are cheaper than architectural shingles. Architectural shingles last 25-30 years, have a 130mph wind warranty, and are heavier with a more updated look. Architectural shingles are the most popular shingle installated today due to longevity, cost, and value
What types of warranties are offered on a roof replacement?
There are four warranties that come with roofs; material warranty to cover manufacturer defects of the shingle, wind warrnaty in case the shingles blow off, algae warranty in case they get black streaks, and workmanship warranties in case there are leaks. Understanding what is and isn't covered is important
Why are there Dark Streaks on My Roof?
Black algae is found on roofs as early as 2-3 years in certain climates. The way to prevent this is by purchasing shingles with higher copper content which prevents the algae from forming. These shingles are typically more expensive as copper is expensive. The manufacturer algae warranties are usually prorated and do not cover much.
Do you replace any rotten decking once the shingles are removed
Code states that the decking must hold a nail. If the decking is rotten, delaminated, or damaged, it must be replaced. If the damaged decking is not replaced, the shingles will blow off over time as the nail will not be held by the decking.
Should flashing be replaced or reused when installing a new roof
New roofs should have new flashing installed with each reroof. Using old flashing will have holes, and will not be covered by a manufacturers workmanship warranty. If a roofer says "replace flashing as required", it means they are not likely to replace the flashing which is not recommended.
What do you do to protect my home during the installation?
During installations, a responsible roofing company emphasizes protecting the property. They conscientiously shield the surrounding area, secure HVAC units, and move delicate items. Upon completion, they meticulously restore everything to its original place, preserving the integrity and neatness of the property. Your home should be cleaner after a roof replacement than before.
Should I Stay Home During a Roof Replacement?
Roof replacements are loud. However, if your roofer needs access to the attic or to inform you of any unforeseen issues, it would be good for you to be home. It is very loud with big bangs in the house just so you know 🙂
What time will my roof replacement start?
Roofers typically arrive while it is still dark outside to begin protecting around the property. Tearoff will begin at first light, and will be typically done by 10am. The roof will be fully watertight by 11am, and shingles loaded by lunch. Shingling usually takes all afternoon.
Can I Replace or Install My New Roof in the Winter?
Roof installations can proceed in cooler temperatures. Typically, as long as there is sun in the forecast and temperates get above 40, the shingles will properly seal together. Installing below 40 and in windy conditions is not advisable as the shingles could blow off if not properly sealed.
What if there is rain in the forecast?
Roofing and rain do not mix. Not only does this increase risks for the interior to get damaged via water, it also is not safe. If rain is in the forecast, especially in the morning, the roof will likely be delayed
When Is the Best Time of Year to Replace Your Roof?
In Georgia, every season is a good season to replace your roof. There are not benefits associated with waiting to install a roof to wait for a seasonal change. Avoiding the hottest and coldest times of the year is usually a good strategy.
What happens if the shingle is defective or has a defect?
The manufacturer will be on the hook to repair or replace the shingles. If the defect is found within the first year of installation, you'll be covered with no issues and your roofer will probably let you know as they are installing the roof. Whether a cash settlement, repair, or full replacement will be up to the manufacturer and the situation.
What happens if I don't like something after the new roof is installed?
Our company values clear communication and welcomes any queries or issues customers may have about their new roofs. We are dedicated to ensuring customer satisfaction and commit to swiftly resolving any problems. Punchout items can be taken care of by our repair department, if applicable.
Why Your New Roof Shingles Are Not Laying Flat
There is a 30-90 day weathering period for newly installed shingles. Asphalt is a liquid, and once the shingles heat up enough, they will settle down, properly seal, and spread onto the roof. This will resolve most issues that are no related to the underlying decking surface.
Why Are There Shingle Granules from My Roof in My Yard?
Granule shedding from new shingles is typical and not indicative of any defect; it's a natural result of installation. This initial shedding is expected to decrease after exposure to a few rainfalls, ensuring the shingles' durability and effective performance over time.
Do you clean up nails with a magnet after the installation?
We use large magnets to sweep the area throughout the roof installation process, and after the job is done. Our detailed approach achieves a high retrieval rate for stray materials, providing a safer space for all.
How Do You Deal with Unforeseen Damage During a Roof Replacement
It is uncommon to find large structure problems during a roof replacement as our experienced salesmen know what to look for
Will I be able to take my dogs out during the roof replacement?
Our on-site project manager can help clear any areas for dogs to go out during the day. Staying out of the construction area is advisable, but we know your dogs needs to be outside!
Do I need to move my car out of the garage prior to replacement?
Before a roofing project begins, it's prudent to move vehicles away from the work area to avoid accidental damage. This consideration enables more efficient workflow and material delivery for roofing teams while protecting customer property. If you need to use your car that day, moving early in the morning is a good idea.
Do you use roll off dumpsters, or dump trailers?
Our business uses dump trailers as they come and leave the same day as the installation, do not damage the driveway, and can be managed more efficiently for trash. Roll off dumpsters are large, are there for multiple days, and can damage the driveway.
What if I have a beautiful back porch with exposed ceilings and tongue and groove decking?
Shorter nails will need to be used on exposed back porch ceilings with tongue and groove. Otherwise, the standard nails will likely go through the decking and tongue and goove, and will damage the interior look of the room
When Should You Pay A Roofer
Never pay a roofer prior to the day of construction. This is how people lose thousands of dollars. Roofers have 30-day terms with their suppliers. If the supplier isn't willing to loan them money, then you should not be willing to either. Paying up front is a red flag.
Will I incur additional costs during the roof replacement?
If rotten decking needs to be replaced above and beyond what was agreed to in the contract, then additional amounts might be charged at the contracted rate. This is the most common reason charges are added after a job, but it is not overly common, nor a lot of money.
Should I Replace My Skylights When Re-roofing?
If your skylights are the same age as the roof, then you should absolutely replace them during the roof replacement. The skylight manufacturers state on their websites that skylights last 20-30 years. If you do not replace with the roof replacement, it will likely cause issues and need repair shortly thereafter.
Will you replace the pipes sticking out of the roof during the installation?
The only item we recommend reusing on a roof is the HVAC bases if they are in good condition. These are metal and can last up to 50 years if they are high quality. Otherwise, all pipe boots, flashing, shingles, underlayments will be removed and replaced during our installations.
