    Shingle Warranties

Getting a strong warranty behind your roof is important and doesn't have to be complicated.  Read below to understand your coverage when installing a new roof on your home.

    Workmanship Warranties

Workmanship warranties cover potential leaks on your new roof.  It is important you choose a contractor that installs a quality roofing system so you do not need to use this workmanship warranty and your new roof never leaks!

    In-house workmanship warranties

These warranties are backed by the company that installed your roof.  If the company goes out of business or never responds to your potential warranty call, you have no easy recourse against the contractor.  There are typically no added costs for an in-house warranty.

    Manufacturer Backed Workmanship Warranties

These warranties are backed by the shingle manufacturer.  In order to qualify for these warranties, you need to:

    • Use a manufacturer certified contractor. Bird's Eye Roofing is certified with all manufacturers for workmanship warranties.
    • Replace all the flashing.  Shingle manufacturers will not stand behind roofs with old flashing.
    • Use all branded roofing products from the manufacturer (underlayment, ice and water, etc.) which are slightly more expensive
    • Pay the shingle manufacturer a fee to stand behind the warranty. This cost increases as the length of warranty increases (10 year, 25 year, "Lifetime", etc.)

If the roofing contractor you use goes out of business, then you do have recourse to get the leaks fixed at no cost to you in indeed they were caused by improper roof installation.

In Bird's Eye Roofing's experience, these warranties do incur additional cost but offer peace of mind.

    Material Warranties

These warranties protect customers in the case that a shingle has a defect.  In our experience, the "Big 3" shingle manufacturers offer quality products and these type of problems are uncommon.  Additionally, if there is a problem with the shingle, it is often found during installation and is covered with the standard material warranty.

Using all branded shingle components and registering a warranty can offer peace of mind for extended coverage, but the shingle manufacturing companies offer strong standard warranties that cover most issues.

    Wind Warranties

These warranties protect against shingles that blow off of your roof due to wind.

    • 3-tab shingles offer wind warranties up to 60mph
    • Architectural shingles offer wind warranties up to 110mph (Cat 1 tornado)
      • You can quality for 130mph wind warranty if 6 nails are used per shingle.  This is standard at Bird's Eye Roofing

    Algae Warranty

Algae warranties cover your roof from black streaks. Additional copper in the shingles helps protect roofs against this algae staining.  Architectural+ shingles protect against algae at a much better rate than 3-tab or standard architectural shingles.

    Flashing Replacement

Shingle manufacturers require all flashing to be replaced in order to stand behind workmanship warranties.  Flashing is the area most likely to leak on a new roof.  Replacing flashing often adds cost due to the metal and labor required to replace these areas around chimneys, sidewalls, and other parts of the roof.  Bird's Eye Roofing will make the flashing look excellent along with the added water protection.

    Manufacturer Materials

All materials used on the roof need to be made by the same manufacturer as your shingles in order to qualify for the manufacturer warranty.  This adds cost instead of using generic underlayment, ice and water, and starter shingles.

    Extended Warranty Charges

Shingle manufacturers charge extra to stand behind a workmanship and extended material warranties.  The value option would be to replace all flashing without paying the manufacturer feeds in order to get a quality roof installation without incurring additional warranty fees.
