    Selecting the right brand of shingles for your home is a decision that will affect the look, quality, and long-term performance of your roof.  Bird's Eye Roofing believes the below manufacturers can be used in any roof replacement installation to satisfactory results.

    CertainTeed

    CertainTeed's shingle manufacturing plant is located in Peachtree City, GA and they are one of the most popular shingles installed by builders in Atlanta.  The standard shingle lines available from CertainTeed are:

    • XT 25 (3-tab)
    • Landmark (architectural)
    • Landmark Pro (architectural+)

    GAF

    GAF Roof Replacement Shingle

    GAF's shingle manufacturing plant is located in Valdosta, GA.  GAF is commonly stocked at Home Depot and Lowe's, and is the world's largest manufacturer of shingles.  The standard shingle lines available from GAF are:

    • Royal Sovereign (3-tab)
    • Timberline HDZ (architectural)
    • Timberline UHDZ (architectural+)

    Owens Corning

    Owens Corning's shingle manufacturing plant is located in College Park, GA.  Owens Corning is known for its Pink Panther logo and large selection of shingle colors.  The standard shingle lines available from Owens Corning are:

    • Supreme (3-tab)
    • Oakridge (architectural)
    • Duration (architectural+)

    Shingle Manufacturer Comparisons

    Similarities

    • All three manufacturers are very similarly priced across product lines
    • Wind warranties are exactly the same
    • Algae warranties are very similar
    • Material warranties against product defects are very similar
    • Workmanship warranties are very similar in coverage

    Differences

    • CertainTeed looks like more of a checkerboard appearance. You'll see more individual square shapes with more color and shade variation from shingle to shingle.
    • GAF looks more textured in architectural appearance with less color variation.
    • Owens Corning is more of a patterned appearance with more color and shaded variation between shingles.

    Highest Quality Shingle Manufacturer

    CertainTeed
    CertainTeed prides itself on manufacturing quality and we've found this shingle has the least amount of issues post installation.  CertainTeed shingles do not slip off of building as often as other shingle brands.

    Most Popular Shingle Manufacturer

    GAF
    GAF is the world's largest shingle manufacturer.  This shingle is found in Home Depot and Lowe’s so you likely have seen GAF shingles when walking around the big box stores.

    Best Looking Shingle Manufacturer

    Owens Corning
    Owens Corning Duration is an excellent looking shingle and is found by many homeowners to have a beautiful finish and strong colors.

    Non-recommended Manufacturers

    IKO & Tamko

    These shingle brands are often used in cheap new construction and we have found problems long-term when using these shingles. They are cheaper than the other shingle brands, but we do not believe they offer value to the Bird’s Eye Roofing customers and therefore do not offer them.

    Atlas

    Atlas shingles have come a long way since a large class action lawsuit around 2010 in regards to their Atlas Chalet shingle that almost bankrupted the company.  However, their shingles now are differently sized than the standard shingles offered by the big three and this creates opportunities for improper installation which is easily eliminated by not installing the shingle in the first place.
